Top Eight Reasons You Need a Vacation
Have you ever thought “I need a vacation from my life”? You’re right. Studies show that vacationing is necessary to keep a balanced, healthy life. Check out the following ‘signs you need a vacation’ and decide for yourself.
1.Retaining New Information Has Become Difficult
You’ve read something three times and it still doesn’t make sense! Sometimes your brain just needs a break to process new information. This is best accomplished at times of rest and sleep, when there is little new input. Studies have shown that people who take time to relax and rejuvenate have much better retention than those who do not.
2. You Have A Hard Time Focusing On Tasks
Stress and the constant chaos of everyday life makes you feel unfocused and irritable. You start something, forget what you were doing, start something else, forget that too… The good news is that it doesn’t always mean dementia is setting in! Just burn-out. Taking time off to relax will make you more focused on what you need to accomplish when you return to your ‘daily grind’.
3. Feeling Depressed And Negative
It’s time to get out of the same old routine. Planning and anticipating time off will bring out positive thoughts and feelings. It’s invigorating to have something new and exciting to look forward to! A little joy goes a long way.
4. Swimming Against The Tide
No matter what you try to accomplish, it’s more difficult than usual. You think ‘there’s got to be a better way’. A change can invigorate you. Give yourself the time to experience new things. You may come away with ideas of how to do things differently and more effectively.
5. Can’t Come Up With A Solution To A Nagging Situation
Have so much fun you forget the situation! Ever notice if you stop worrying about a problem, the answer is likely to make itself known.
6. Toooo Damn Tired
How many times do you wake up suddenly or can’t sleep because there’s a to-do list, running in a constant loop through your brain. Shutting that down for just a few days can help reset your sleep pattern and get you sleeping better.
7. Creativity is Lost; Inspiration Won’t Come
While a vacation might not necessarily get you on The Shark Tank, you never know! There are two sides to your brain; the task oriented and the daydreaming, creative mind. When constant effort is applied to tasks only, the mind has no time to rest. The greatest insight and creativity comes from a resting mind. Want to become a billionaire? Maybe you should stop working so hard!
8. You Think You’re Too Busy To Take A Vacation
Say no more. That’s exactly the reason you need one!
Surprisingly, studies show that nearly half of Americans don’t use all their vacation time. The main reasons cited are that people either feel their family/job can’t live without them, fear being replaced or the heavy workload upon return. If this is you, get over it! The benefits outweigh the risks.
Employers seem to have taken notice of recent studies and some are forcing their employees to take their time off. In addition, many companies are adopting a ‘no vacation policy’ policy. Employees are able to take time as they wish, whether for an hour long coffee break or a two week vacation, as long as they are mindful of workloads and deadlines. These employers note a huge increase in productivity as employees are happier, more efficient, creative, and dedicated.
Whether your life includes a corporate workplace or not, everyday stresses belong to us all. Whatever your situation, there’s no reason to feel guilty about needing some time to relax your mind.
P.S. Decided you need a vacation, but have no money? Consider a stay-cation!
When was the last time you went to the beach for the entire day? How about a long leisurely walk? Sing in the shower. Have a movie marathon. Ride a bike. Count the stars. Browse two magazines in one sitting! What?!
Most important, don’t forget to plan and look forward to what you’ll do on your next vacation!! Start Exploring!
