Plan Your Weekend Escape To Boston!
Spend your weekend in Boston for an escape to remember! This small, bustling city is an eclectic mix of the old and new. You’ll walk through vintage row houses which lead way to modern city skyscrapers. Well-known historic sites and incredibly trendy city neighborhoods blended together perfectly!
This is a wonderful destination for a quick weekend getaway. In addition to great inexpensive airfares from many of the major hubs, getting into Boston from the airport is quick and easy. The subway system runs from airport to city in 6 minutes. Do not rent a car! Like most cities, traffic is gridlocked many times and parking is tough and expensive. Besides, it’s not necessary. The city is small and you can navigate the majority of it on foot or just grab a quick cab ride if necessary.
I would highly recommend the historic Lenox Hotel. This is an elegant, old world hotel established in 1900. The rooms are charming, updated and clean with extremely comfortable beds, most with working fireplaces. Located in the Back Bay area, the central location makes easy walking to any of the city sites. Before heading out in the evening, check out the hotel’s City Table restaurant for a quick afternoon appetizer. Other great hotels in the area are the Boston Harbor Hotel and the Seaport Boston Hotel. They are both highly rated and offer a beautiful view of the harbor!
Wanting to really have a ‘night out’, we opted for The Bristol restaurant in the Four Seasons. I’ve seen they have some great reviews, but nevertheless we were unimpressed. With menu prices that high, I really expect total awesomeness. On the bright side, we had an amazing view of the Boston Public Gardens throughout the meal! If you don’t mind paying $15 for a glass of wine, stop in to check out the view, but save your appetite for the Atlantic Fish Company!
The Freedom Trail. I’m no history buff but you can’t really say that you’ve been to Boston without walking through it’s history for at least a portion of this 2.5 mile trail. The trail leads through 16 significant historic sites. Grab a skinny vanilla latte to-go and walk off breakfast!
Boston Commons & Public Gardens – a beautiful park in the middle of the city. There’s a visitor information center located here.
Faneuil Hall Marketplace – Walk through cobblestone streets, watching street performers and browse the shops here.
Quincy Market – This is the place for lunch! It’s a giant food court with vendor stalls with every type of food you can think of. Incredible lobster rolls, lobster mac & cheese, lobster bisque… Yes, there’s other stuff too, but who cares?!
In the downtown area you’ll find the Theatre District, past that toward the Waterfront you’ll go through a small Chinatown area. Little Italy is in the North End. If you’re looking for the original location of ‘Cheers’… that’s in Beacon Hill. (By the way, it only provided the outside scene of the ‘Cheers’ bar!.. I know, a little disappointing.) Even the Public Library is pretty awesome!
Whether you’re into baseball or not, Fenway Park has got to be the most classic baseball field in America! Even if you don’t make it to a game, stop by to see it. Oh, and unless you’re ready for a debate, if you have a Yankees hat on, it might be best to put it in your pocket! Not being a big baseball fan, I unknowingly booked a stay in Boston back in 2004 during the Red Sox – Yankees world series. Wow! Not a good time to be a New Yorker in Boston! Let it be known that the fans are extremely serious here and they aren’t letting go of the Red Sox – Yankees rivalry.
With so much diversity, it sounds like a big city. Rest assured, it’s truly a small, walking city with a big city attitude! It’s the perfect spot for a long weekend getaway. The park is beautiful in fall!
