Vacation In St. Lucia – An Incredibly Scenic Island!
Without a doubt, St. Lucia is one of the most beautiful of the Caribbean islands! You don’t need an itinerary, just a little vacation time to delight in the outstanding beauty. With its incredible scenery and pristine beaches, you’ll find a ‘picture perfect’ island in St. Lucia.
My husband and I were the fortunate guests on our friends’ vacation to the Windjammer Landing Villa Beach Resort in Labrelotte Bay. As members of RCI, they were able to get a 2 story, 2 bedroom villa and were kind enough to share it with us. This was one of my favorite vacation villas ever! It had a beautiful outdoor multi-level deck built into the mountainside with a personal infinite pool. The lush vegetation surrounding the villa blocked out everything but the amazing view of the bay. Awesome!
It was the villa that made the experience! I would give the villa a 5 and the rest of the resort a 3.5. We had to choose all inclusive for a minimum of 3 days which we did. The food at the resort was so-so and we were happy when the all-inclusive three days were over. (FYI: Many of the RCI properties are beginning to force an expensive ‘all inclusive’ add-on which is reducing the value of ownership.) The beach at the property is calm and pretty. A nice perk was the daily visit of a local ‘fruit boat’ at 10 a.m! That was great!
Although I really loved the villa at Windjammer, next time I’d like to stay at the Ladera Resort on the dormant volcano, overlooking the Pitons. There are great views and reviews at this hotel.
What To Do In St. Lucia
Be sure to plan your trip with a focus on nature. Visit the soaring twin peaks of the Pitons for a photo op. If you’re really ambitious, you can hike them! Wander through the National Rain Forest to see magnificent ferns, beautiful birds and exotic flowers. Bathe under the Diamond or Toraille Waterfalls. Don’t forget to check out St. Lucia’s Soufriere, an active steam-emitting volcano. Be prepared for the rotten sulphur smell. If you can stand the stink, the hot springs and mud baths are said to be great for the skin, but bring an old bathing suit.
If you’re in town on a Friday night, the Jump-Up street party in Gros Islet is a must. The street is closed off for this event with local food vendors, pop up bars, live music and dancing, dancing, dancing! You’ll find some of the best local food right here. The St. Lucians’ know how to start the weekend!
The biggest annual event on this island is the St. Lucia Jazz & Arts Festival. It’s scheduled to take place from April 29th through May 8th, 2016 on the grounds of the Pigeon Island Park. I wasn’t aware of it at the time of my trip, but it’s now on my bucket list! If you’re thinking of St. Lucia, you might want to visit during this 9 day festival, but plan ahead of time. There are still some rooms available, but they’ll be sure to go fast!
